rave: target + neiman marcus = omg

Last week I read the announcement and I had to double check.  And it's true: TargetNeiman Marcus are doing a collaboration! And it is a BIG one: A limited-edition holiday collection of gifts featuring 24 of America’s most preeminent designers is in the works.

Together, the two companies have enlisted their designer friends to create a collection of more than 50 gifting products, from apparel and home décor to pet products, sporting goods and more. The collection will hits all Target and Neiman Marcus stores AND Target.com and NeimanMarcus.com on December 1.

All of the participating designers are members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which is why Target and Neiman Marcus will be donating $1 million to the organization. The donation will be used to support fashion design talent through scholarships, mentoring and business development programs.

Today, both blogs shared a video with us showing the world a sneak peak of the super secret stuff that has been happening for months now. (I'm still not sure how they kept this major news with so many people involved quiet for so long without any info being leaked. They must have tapped into the Apple/Steve Jobs method.) Cameos from some of the designers and "stuff" they are working (and their fabulous offices!) is great eye candy. So watch it!

The anticipation of seeing finished products is killing me. *sigh* Now I'm super excited about holiday shopping.  I better start saving my pennies...

rant: dvf *hearts* gapkids

i don't know how i missed this, but i'm glad i saw it in my inbox yesterday. gapkids and dvf are collaborating.  i love dvf! although i'm surprised she is doing a kids line, i'm so happy she is.  they clothes are precious and so bright and fun. i can't wait to see them in person since my friend j is having a baby girl later this year.  and selfishly, i can some times fit in xl kids clothes so i'm excited to see if there's anything that would fit.  i mean, how cute is this collection?  i love the gray and green dress and the blazer...adorable!!

rave: bhldn

if you're getting married or just love to look at wedding eye candy, you need to check out BHLDN.
BHLDN is a fairly new wedding/event/speciality line that is brought to you by the lovely people of anthropologie.  everything has a one-of-a-kind feel, very much the traditional look with a slight twist to make items heirloom worthy.

it is also a wonderful place for diy-ers to get ideas if you are crafty.  many of the items (especially in decor) provide a great springboard for those of us who do not have unlimited wedding budgets.

so take a poke around their website.
or if you are lucky enough to live in houston, tx you can visit their only brick and mortar location

below are just some of my favorite things i've seen over the last couple months.

if i could have another wedding, i would LOVE to wear this dress.

rave: poufs

no living room ever seems to have enough seating...or there's always that person(s) who like to sit on the floor. (guilty!)  or everyone just wants something to put their feet up on and the ottoman is just not big enough.  so apparently the interior design worlds answer to such problem are...poufs. i skimming my google reader and came across this post from apartmenttherapy.com and i have to say i kinda <3 these two options...especially the livingstones...

maybe it's time for a diy project...

rant: dream and ye shall find...

every night i read in bed before falling asleep.  it helps me wind down and gets my brain to stop thinking so much. recently, with the cooler-than-usual weather in TX, while reading in bed, my arms and hands get cold.  naturally, i just keep switching arms.  one arm holds book, other arm gets tucked under the blanket...switch. so that goes on for a while until i'm sleepy or my arms get tired. this method has worked well so far with the current book since it is not the size/weight of a brick (hardcover, less than 1 pound). but with the last book and book before that (both paperback each weighing over 2 pound...one closer to 3 pounds), there have been moments where cold arms/fingers have caused the books to slip out of my grip and fall on my face.  i have on more than one occassion wished for something to just cover my arms/hands while i read in bed. i know what you guys are thinking:
  • long sleeves - i do wear long sleeves to sleep...they just slid towards my armpits when i hold a book up, exposing said appdenages to the elements
  • gloves - i've tried, but the lack of finger texture and dexterity makes it hard to turn pages
  • snuggie - do not even say it. i have refused from day one and will continue to. it's just wrong. but even if i did, same problem as long sleeves...slippage
  • heating - we turn it on, but not very high since it dries out nasal passages and causes nose bleeds.  besides our eskie would be very unhappy if we took away the one season that he loves.
so as i scanned twitter this a.m., and i see this tweet from clotilde of the blog chocolate & zucchini:
clotildenet: a duvet with sleeves + gloves for reading in bed: http://bit.ly/ccUMsF (of course the index finger is free for page turning) (30 minutes ago from Tweetie)

happiness in bed has a fabulous solution!

maybe this will be my next "home improvement" investment...after floor to ceiling shelving, wall artwork, and paiting my kitchen cabinets.  better yet, i wonder if my mommy could create one from an old duvet cover...

rant: r.i.p. McQ

designer lee alexander mcqueen was found dead this morning in his london home.  the fashion world has loss one of its greats today. if you've ever worn his one of his creations, especially his men's suits then you know what an amazing designer and tailor he was. his men's suits were are amazing, worthy of a prince (charles).

if you haven't read cathy horyn's profile of mcqueen in the nyt's t magazine from september 2009, it's a good read. my thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.
