Rave: Laguna Gloria & Mayfield Park
Took advantage of a beautiful Sunday afternoon and went walking around Laguna Gloria and Mayfield Park. I never knew that Mayfield was there. We ran into by accident b/c LG was closing. I was so suprised by how beautiful it was. And of course the peacocks were cool too. Would recommend a trip out there on the next pretty day you have off.

Rant: spoken
"The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When a secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear."

Rant: white as snow
hmmm...snow white puppy playing with a snowman. odd? yes, for this one. see, he's decided that he's not really a dog. well, let's re-phrase. That is something he decided long ago. he's never been treated like one, so i am partially to blame. but everyone in a blue moon, he'll return to his roots and will run and chase and fetch and attack his toys. and this was one of those rare moments. it gives me hope that he is a dog!

Scenic 26 mile tour of austin
So yesterday I took part in an austin tradition. the freescale marathon. no i did not run in it. i provide a team of hydration engineers. okay, my work volunteered to work a waterstation :) I was totally dreading it with the freezing cold weather but once it got rolling it was quite a bit of fun. I was totally amazed by the number of runners and the speed of the elite runners. we were at waterstop mile 11. so about half way...so the race started 30min late...7:30am and we saw the first group of runners at 8:45am. 1 hour and 15 mins and the elite runners were almost half way through. THAT IS CRAZY! I was so impressed by the runners, not just with their ability, but also kindness and appreciation for the volunteers. It was also cool. I saw a handful of people i knew running the race. I even ran into a girl i met my freshman year in jester east. so congrats to all the ones brave enough to take the scenic tour of austin!

Texas Winter
So winter is making a late appearance again this year in Texas. I'm not suprised...just not thrilled. I got suckered in to being a water station captain for the Freescale Marathon this weekend. I wasn't thrilled that my long weekend was ruined, but I thought this could be fun. Anways, I know how hard it is to run 26+ miles. It's nice to have people cheering for you. The only bummer,at first, was that I would have to be at my stop by 6am...yes...6am on a Sunday morning. Then the speculations of a cold front blowing in thursday and friday started surfacing around Tuesday. Then yesterday, cold but no rain for sunday. This morning, freezing rain all weekend long. So, now I'm just hoping that it's going to freeze over and that APD is going to close the roads. That is the only way the Marathon will not happen. I know it's not fair and quite mean for those who have traveled far and wide to come run so they can qualify for the Boston Marathon. But I'm being honest...I don't want to hang out in the freezing rain to had water to runners who don't want it...does this make me a bad person???
